School Funding

I advocate for adequate funding of all Missouri schools. Local school districts are currently funded from three sources: local, state and federal. The federal government funds Missouri schools about 6 to 10% of the local school budget, depending upon the school district.

Revenue from local and state sources make up the rest, in varying degrees. Some school districts have more wealth than others, and they can generate more revenue. This funding method for schools has been in place for generations. Efforts have been made in a number of states many times, to change the method of school funding, to no avail.

The State of Missouri has to increase its share of funding to those school districts in the state that lack the wealth to bring all school districts up to a standard of performance of the wealthiest school districts in the state. This should provide an equal education opportunity for all Missouri school children.
